Broader role for Prasad at FDA

FDA Commissioner Marty Makary named Vinay Prasad as FDA’s chief medical and scientific officer, according to a letter Makary sent to FDA staff. Prasad will remain director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Review.

Makary said that in this capacity, a new role at the agency, Prasad will serve as an adviser to senior officials on emerging medical and scientific issues affecting regulatory science and public health; provide strategic input and leadership on trans-center working groups and initiatives to ensure scientific consistency and integration across FDA; build partnerships with stakeholders in industry, academia and government; and offer input on “cross-center” medical policy and regulatory decisions...
